Lake landscape from Kilvakkala

The villages of the Kilvakkala region form a vibrant and historically significant entity in the city of Ikaalinen.

The region includes the villages of Kilvakkala, Viljala, Sammi and Niemi, which are located only about five kilometers from the center of Ikaalinen. The area offers a peaceful rural environment with good transport connections and services nearby.

Kilvakkala is a vibrant village with a village school and a daycare center. The area is particularly popular with families with children and working-age people, and the village community is active and communal. There are approximately 110 registered businesses in the region, which speaks to the vitality and continuous development of the area.

The villages of the Kilvakkala region are located in magnificent, rolling farmland landscapes, with Lake Kyrösjärvi glimmering in the middle. The village of Kilvakkala itself is located on the top of a ridge, surrounded by fields, and its heart beats with a village school and kindergarten. The villages of Kilvakkala and the surrounding farmlands descending towards Lake Kyrösjärvi form an impressive scenic whole – the Kelminselkä cultural landscape.

This area tells a story from thousands of years ago. Stone Age settlements and Iron Age cemeteries are reminders of the early inhabitants who found a home in these lands surrounding Lake Kyrösjärvi. A significant concentration of Stone Age settlements has been found in the area of the villages of Kilvakkala, Sammi, Viljala and Niemi. Kilvakkala was already the largest village in Ikaalinen in the 1500th century, and the fields surrounding it are among the oldest cultivated areas in the region. The vast fields can already be seen on the 1787 major division map, Isojakokartta.

The cultural landscape of Kelminselkä is a gem of Pirkanmaa: a gently rolling agricultural and lake landscape that has been valuable since early history. The coastal fields located on opposite shores create long, beautiful views. The value of the landscape is emphasized by its bordering on one side a populated ridge and on the other side a sparkling body of water.

Come experience the harmony of history, beautiful landscapes and an active village community – Kilvakkala, Sammi, Viljala and the village of Niemi await you.
