Discover the villages of Lahdenpohja

Lahdenpohja is the name given to the beautiful coastal areas south of Kelminselkä and Palinperänlahti. This area contains three villages: Haapimaa, Kurkela and Vatsiainen.

The nearest village, Lahdenpohja, is only a few kilometers from the center of Ikaalinen. The Lahdenpohja area borders Hämeenkyrö on one side. The center of Hämeenkyrö is just over 10 kilometers away, and Tampere is just under an hour's drive away.

The area has been defined as an area of ​​regional, scenic and historical value. The local road leading to the villages is a popular cycling and jogging route. The road leading through the hilly farmland and forest landscapes is considered one of the most beautiful scenic roads in the area. Along Palinperäntie in Vatsiainen there is a monument telling of the great discovery of money in 1966. A Viking-era sword has been found in Vira of Haapimaa, which is kept in the Satakunta Museum in Pori.

The nationally significant landscapes of Ulvaanharju pass through the Lahdenpohja area. Ulvaanharju offers many wonderful outdoor activities and hiking opportunities. Ulvaan kota, which is actively used by outdoor enthusiasts, is also located on Ulvaanharju. In addition, one of Finland's medieval summer roads, Hämeenkankaantie, runs along the ridge.

The villages have an active village committee and, among others, a water cooperative, and a hunting and game management association. There has been built several detached houses and renovated old ones in the region in recent years. The villages of Lahdenpohja have many multi-generational residents, from young to elderly, returnees and leisure residents.
