Family Mäkelä

Our family has lived in Ikaalinen for 10 years. We moved to Ikaalinen for work, but the beautiful nature and Lake Kyrösjärvi and the proximity to Tampere also attracted us. The best thing about Ikaalinen is that you can access jogging trails directly from your own backyard to beautiful forest and lake landscapes. Our favorite jogging trail is the Kalmaa nature trail in our own residential area, which runs along the shores of Lake Kyrösjärvi. The Kalmaa nature trail also has wonderful campfire spots, especially Paskonnokka, which is a great place to grill sausages in the middle of the forest, by Lake Kyrösjärvi, in beautiful weather.

Kyrösjärvi is a very dear and important place for our family. In the summer we have two great beaches a few hundred meters from our own home. The Kalmaa boat beach has a nice large pier, from which you can go directly for a swim. The Kalmaa beach has a great sandy bottom and a shallow beach, and we have taken several of our family guests there to enjoy the summer days. Our family takes a sauna almost every day, and in the summer it is a luxury to be able to go straight from the sauna to the pool and back to the sauna after swimming.

Our family enjoys fishing and Lake Kyrösjärvi offers a great setting for this hobby. In addition to fishing, we like to go boating along Lake Kyrösjärvi and take day and night trips to the islands found in Lake Kyrösjärvi. Markansaari deserves special mention, where there is a campfire site and a tent sauna. In winter, the city builds great ski trails on Lake Kyrösjärvi, which are great for skiing while admiring the beautiful scenery.

The athletics field and its surrounding areas are also very important places for our family. Both of our sons play athletics and football, and Ikaalinen offers a great setting for these sports. The skateboard ramp and frisbee golf course located next to the athletics field also receive praise from our family. Sports and physical activity are strongly present in our everyday lives, both in our free time and for work. The outdoor sports facilities in Ikaalinen are incomparable in terms of both condition and scenery. Our family also gives a big thumbs up to the Toivolansaari and the tennis courts on the pier. In addition to our own residential area, we always introduce our friends who come to Ikaalinen from other places to Vanha Kauppala and its magnificent scenery. The stairs on the pier at Vanha Kauppala have also become familiar while training with different training groups.

We also like to pick berries and mushrooms, and there are many places better than the last in Ikaalinen for this. We have collected our blueberries ourselves from the Vatula terrain, where we also often go jogging and skiing in the winter. The new sports hall brings joy to our sporty everyday life.

In addition to beautiful nature and water, and good sports opportunities, Ikaalinen has all the basic services our family needs, and they are easily and quickly accessible. Ikaalinen has invested in services for families with children and recreational opportunities for children and young people, and many kinds of events are actively organized here for all ages. If you ever miss the pulse and services of a bigger city, Tampere is less than an hour away.
