Samu Aarnio's work Jouhikko was chosen as the artwork for the future roundabout between Sisääntulotie and Vanha Tampereentie.
The City of Ikaalinen organized a general art design competition from April 26 to May 25, 2018, with the aim of finding a work or a set of works to be implemented for the future roundabout of the entrance road and Old Tampereentie.
The work to be realized was selected by a jury consisting of representatives of the City of Ikaalinen, Ikaalinen College of Applied Arts and Crafts, and Ikaalinen Art Association TAIKA. The jury convened for the selection ceremony on May 30, 2018.
Eight entries were submitted to the competition. The jury unanimously decided to award the best entry to the work called Jouhikko. The work was created by designer Samu Aarnio from Joensuu.
The jury and the city of Ikaalinen would like to thank everyone who participated in the design competition. The large turnout and successful competition serve as a positive impetus and enable similar competitions to be organized in the future.

The roundabout artwork Jouhikko is a 7,5-meter-high sculpture that forms a powerful and delicate landmark for the roundabout planned at the intersection of Ikaalinen Sisääntulotie and Vanha Tampereentie. – Samu Aarnio
The work features a giant drop of water hitting the water's surface, creating waves that ripple along the edges of the roundabout. It also features a steel string instrument resonating with music and a prehistoric Venus statue. – Samu Aarnio
