Water bodies

Water bodies are a significant part of the Finnish countryside. Water bodies also have important recreational value. The aim of water protection is to prevent harmful changes to water bodies and to remedy the harm caused.

A water protection study of the Kyrösjärvi catchment area was conducted in Ikaalinen between 2001 and 2003. The study involved Ikaalinen, Hämeenkyrö, Parkano, Kihniö, Viljakkala and the Pirkanmaa Environmental Centre (currently Pirkanmaan ELY-keskus).

A zoning study (HajaKäsi) for wastewater treatment in sparsely populated areas of the Kyrösjärvi route was completed in 2003. This study was also carried out in regional cooperation. The study involved Ikaalinen, Parkano, Kihniö, Viljakkala and the Pirkanmaa Environmental Centre.

The state of Pirkanmaa's water systems and the quality of water bodies is monitored repeatedly.

Hydraulic engineering refers to dredging, construction of piers, embankments and fillings. These measures must be reported in writing.
