Instructions for using the beaches
Hydraulic engineering refers to, among other things, dredging, construction of piers, embankments and fillings.
Water construction can cause water turbidity and thereby impair water quality. Dredging and filling in particular change the coastal zone and may have a detrimental effect on fish and other aquatic life. Coasts are also central to the aquatic landscape.
2. Reducing pollutants entering water bodies
No measures may be taken in a water body or on land that may cause harm to the water body, fishing or health due to deteriorated water quality. The measure may also not reduce the beauty of nature, the amenity of the environment, cultural values or the usability of the water body for water supply or its suitability for recreational use. (VL Section 15).
Wastewater management
Wastewater treatment should be as careful and efficient as possible. An expert designer should determine the appropriate treatment method for the property. For more information about wastewater, see The Wastewater Site.
Washing carpets:
In Finland, carpet washing has traditionally taken place on a pier. However, washing on a pier or in a lake is not advisable. During washing, dirt comes off the carpets and nutrients from the detergents enter the water, which burdens the water system. Also, washing with pine soap should not be done in such a way that the washing water flows into the lake.
The carpet washing area should be constructed in such a way that the dirty water used in washing flows into the ground, where it is filtered. An absorption field similar to that required for the treatment of household wastewater can be built in connection with the washing area. The distance between the absorption area and the watercourse should be at least 20 metres. In this case, the soil should be particularly suitable for absorption. Depending on the soil conditions, the situation should be considered on a case-by-case basis.
3. Landscape protection
The main principle is preserving biodiversityIf there are beautiful landscape entities that have been transformed into open fields through grazing or cultivation, the entity should be preserved.
Similarly, there may be a complex of trees and shrubs of varying ages along the banks of a body of water, which continues into the water as diverse aquatic vegetation. The area provides shelter for birds and mammals and forms important shelter and spawning grounds for fish in the water. On a hot summer day, trees shade the water, being even vital for fish and organisms.
Areas near streams and other small water bodies, as well as along river banks, are particularly vulnerable.
When planning measures that affect the landscape or other aquatic environments, contact must be made with the environmental authorities (Habitat Board / Environmental Protection Secretary, Pirkanmaan ELY-keskus).
