County and municipal elections 2025

The regional and municipal elections will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025. The advance voting period is 2-8 April 2025 in Finland and 2-5 April 2025 abroad.

Both elections follow the same division of voting districts, which is decided by the municipal council (section 8).

Both elections have the same general advance voting locations and institutional voting locations, as well as polling stations on election day (section 9). Polling stations are therefore not set separately for regional and municipal elections. Domestic general advance voting locations are set by the municipal government. Foreign general advance voting locations are set by a decree of the Council of State.

According to Section 9 of the Election Act, the municipal government decides on the number and location of domestic general advance voting stations in the municipality. Each municipality must have at least one advance voting station, unless special reasons dictate otherwise.

According to Section 47 of the Election Act, a general advance voting station in Finland is open on all days of the advance voting period, unless otherwise determined by a decision of the municipal government for special reasons. In each

According to Section 48 of the Election Act, the municipal government also determines the daily opening hours of the advance voting location, however, the location may not be open on weekdays before 8 am or after 20 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays before 9 am or after 18 pm.

The municipal government must determine by decision which institutions (including hospitals, 24-hour care and other social welfare units) are advance voting locations.
