Regional elections 2022

The following general national elections will be held in Finland:

The highest decision-making authority in the welfare area is exercised by the regional council, whose members and deputy members are elected in regional elections. The city of Ikaalinen belongs to the Pirkanmaa welfare area.

Advance voting in Finland will be held from January 12 to 18, 2022.
The election day for the first regional elections is Sunday, January 23, 2022..

The deadline for submitting candidate applications is December 14, 2021 before 4 p.m. and the confirmation of the candidate nomination is December 23, 2021. Registration for home voting ends on January 11, 2022 at 4 p.m.
In regional elections, the electoral district is a welfare area. Candidates are nominated for the entire welfare area, voters only vote for candidates in their own welfare area, and the result is calculated for each welfare area.
Candidates in regional elections may be nominated by parties and electoral associations registered in the party register. Parties may form electoral alliances and electoral associations may form joint lists. Nominated candidates are candidates for the entire welfare area. Parties and electoral associations submit candidacy applications to the regional election board. The maximum length of the candidate list is 1,25 times the number of councilors to be elected in the welfare area.

Early voting

Advance voting is a free choice for voters instead of voting on election day. Each voter may vote in advance at any public advance voting location, either in Finland or abroad, according to their own choice.

The polling stations open at 9 am on election day and voting continues until 8 pm. If there is a queue at the polling station at 8 pm, everyone who has arrived by that time will be able to vote in peace before the voting closes.

Home voting 12-18 January 2022

You can vote early at home if your ability to move and function is so limited that you cannot get to the advance voting location or the polling station on election day without unreasonable difficulties. In this case, an election officer appointed by the municipal central election board will arrive at the agreed time and collect your vote.
In connection with home voting, a person living in the same household as the home voter can also vote. in the Act on Support for Informal Care(937/2005). The voting of a caregiver must be reported to the municipal central election board at the same time as the registration for home voting is made.
