Accordion Museum – temporarily closed

The exhibition is maintained by the Finnish Accordion Institute.

The collection maintained by the institute contains all the most important Finnish five-row accordions over 30 years old, with some rare exceptions. The majority of the instruments date from the 1930s and 40s. The oldest instrument in the collection is a German-model accordion from the 1880s. The exhibition features approximately 85 accordions. The instruments have been restored as an internship for accordion repair students. The accordion workshop of accordion builder Juho Pirjanni, acquired by the College of Arts and Crafts, includes tools, machines and instruments.

Portraiture

In connection with the musical instrument collection, there is a portrait collection, which includes portraits of Lasse Pihlajamaa, Paul Norrback, Johan Homan, Viljo Vesterinen, Esko Könönen, Raimo Pihlajamaa, Taito Vainio, Viola Turpeisen, Aarre Lievonen and Heikki Eränen, as well as a wood relief depicting Toivo Mann.

Ikaalinen Kalevala Women's Association

The Kalevala Women's Association of Ikaalinen was founded in 1958. There were 80 members by the end of 2018. We are a member association of the Kalevala Women's Association, which owns Kalevala Koru.

We are bearers of the Kalevala of different ages and different backgrounds, we enjoy poetry, literature, art, music and the spectrum of cultures. They are a part of us, as is everything new that arises from tradition.

We create opportunities for the meeting of old and new and for the joy of performing. We highlight local dialect, tradition, nomenclature, and handicrafts.

Anything that builds sustainable and authentic cultural work makes us happy.

Our activities have been recognized. The Kalevala Women's Association chose our association as Association of the Year in 2012.

Ikaalinen Male Singers

The Ikaalinen Mieslaulajat was founded in 1951. The original purpose was to awaken and maintain a hobby for male choir singing, primarily Finnish. Since then, the repertoire has expanded considerably, including both Finnish and foreign songs composed and arranged for male choirs, from patriotic to spiritual and light music.

The choir can be booked to sing in its entirety or in smaller ensembles for a variety of occasions. In addition to Finland, we have also performed several concerts abroad. In the spring of 2016, the choir celebrated its 65th anniversary on Mother's Day and in the spring.

Summer Theater Seleentakuset

Summer Theatre Seleentakuset is the summer theatre of the Röyhiö Village Society, located behind the centre of Ikaalinen.

The Seleentakusten Summer Theatre is located in the courtyard of the Röyhiö Village Hall and the theatre has a covered auditorium for 250 people and an uncovered auditorium for 50 people. Groups have the opportunity to dine at our village hall in connection with the theatre. Tasty home-cooked food is available from the buffet. As a result of active volunteer work, the village hall has become a centre of eastern Ikaal culture.

Röyhiö Village Hall is a former school building of cultural and historical value built in 1922, which was transferred to the ownership of the village association in 2002. The school premises have been renovated to a modern style, while respecting the old. The classrooms are used for hobbies, gatherings, meetings and parties, and the kitchen has been renovated into a so-called catering kitchen. There is also a terrace and a pavilion in the courtyard. The Röyhiö Countrymen's Association's coffee and dining equipment is available for rent. The distance to the center of Ikaalinen is about 30 km, and there is a ship/boat pier on the shore of Penijoenlahti Bay in Kyrösjärvi about 400 meters from the village hall.
