Preschool curriculum
Preschool education is an activity subject to the Basic Education Act. The organization of activities is guided by a national regulation issued by the National Board of Education, according to which the municipality draws up a preschool curriculum.
Pre-primary and primary education student support
The child has the right to receive free study support that is required to participate in education.
Student care refers to the promotion and maintenance of a child's good learning, good mental and physical health, and social well-being, as well as activities that increase the conditions for these in the preschool community.
Educational care is implemented primarily as preventive, community-based educational care that supports the entire preschool community. In addition, children have the right to individualized educational care. Multidisciplinary cooperation is central to educational care.
Student welfare work is guided by confidentiality, a respectful attitude towards the child and guardian, and supporting their participation.

Preschool absence policies
Preschool education is mandatory as of August 1, 2015: The guardian is responsible for ensuring that the child participates in one-year preschool education or other activities that achieve the goals of preschool education in the year preceding the start of compulsory education.
The policies for granting discretionary absences for preschoolers are as follows:
- The preschool teacher grants absences of up to 5 days.
- The school principal and the head of the early childhood education unit grant absences lasting more than 5 days.
The guardian requests an absence, either through the electronic communication system (Päikky daycare centers, Wilma regional schools) or by email using the form below.
Exemption from Preschool Education
The guardian must determine how the tasks will be completed during the absence.
Judgment
Assessment is an integral part of preschool education. Assessment has two functions in preschool education: it helps plan and develop teaching and supports the well-being, growth and learning of each child.
Evaluation is a process consisting of observation, documentation, evaluation conclusions, and feedback, in which teachers, other preschool personnel, children, and guardians participate.
The preschool teacher prepares a preschool learning plan (Leops) for all students participating in preschool education in cooperation with the guardians. If necessary, an enhanced learning plan (teho-ops) or a personal teaching organization plan (HOJKS) is prepared.
The goals set in the fall are evaluated in the spring together with the guardians and the preschooler.
At the end of the school year, preschool students are given a certificate of participation in preschool education.
