Children from Karttu start their school journey at Kilvakkala village school, where there is school transport. When there have been more children, a 4H club has operated here.

A ski trail maintained by the city runs over Kartuntie near Kolmostie. Other services provided by the city, except for village road maintenance, do not extend to the village, but the distance to the services is relatively short.

Lake Kyrösjärvi surrounding the village offers good boating and fishing opportunities. The Karttu fishing community, Kartun kalastuskunta, manages the fishing waters. The head of the fishing community is Eero Kauppila, tel. 0400 338 286.

Mämmiäiset swimming beach is a common area for villagers on the shore of Lake Kyrösjärvi's Isoselkä. The swimming beach has a covered dance stage and a firewood shed built as a common gathering place. The beach and the plot of sand behind it are owned by the district council (Jakokunta). Taking sand from there has not been allowed for decades. On the contrary, the village association (Kyläseura) has produced sand for the beach to control erosion. Suviseurat together with the parish organizes an annual village festival in Mämmiäiset, and the end-of-summer party in late summer.

The Koivikko farm, bequeathed to the Ikaalinen parish by Jalmari and Lyyli Jylli, is now a camp center. A sauna hut was built at the camp center and a new main building was built about ten years ago. The village association sometimes organizes events in Koivikko and we also cooperate with the parish in other ways.

The Kartturi milk platform was erected at the intersection of Kartuntie as a landmark and a stand for the village notice board. Under the roof of Kartturi is a self-service village library.

A regional waste disposal site has been built along Kartuntie and a village name sign has been erected at the address Kartuntie 146.

There are private road associations (Tiekunta) for the maintenance of Karttu village road and ice road.

Kartun Vesiosuuskunta water cooperative supplies domestic water to almost every household in Karttu. The water cooperative was founded in 1992. The water cooperative is led by Mirjami Haavisto. A few cooperatives have been established at the southern end of the village to direct wastewater to the city center pumping station.

Kartun maa- ja kotitalousseura ry, an agricultural and household association, although currently dormant under an agreement with Pro Agria, rents catering equipment, which contains crockery and cutlery for a hundred people in transport boxes. The equipment is managed by Leena Hakala.

Karttu hunters are part of the Kilvakkala region. The hunting club's facilities, cottage, hut and smoke sauna are available for rent.

The Karttu cooperative (Kartun osakaskunta) was organized in the summer of 2008. The Karttu cooperative has seven common areas in the Kylä-Karttu area (“district common areas”). The largest of them is Mämmiäinen. Also notable is Hallianranta, where the village’s boat launch and ice road landing sites are located.

Kartun tie, which is managed by the Finnish Road Administration, has a narrow Taivallahti Bridge between two steep hills, which has been the site of numerous near misses. The first official repair request was made to the Finnish Road Administration in 2003, accompanied by a list of 318 names. The following year, a letter was sent to the technical committee.

Taivallahden suojeluyhdistys conservation association was founded about five years ago. The association's main goal is to "restore Lake Taivallahti to its natural state". A positive decision has been made to rebuild the bridge, as well as the plans for its implementation. Now the Taivallahti bridge project is awaiting the promised funding. The chairman of the conservation association is Heikki Toivainen.
