From a holiday home to a permanent one?
When changing the purpose of a holiday home, a deviation permit issued by the Environmental Board is often required. The Building Control Authority determines the need for a permit and, if necessary, prepares the requested deviation permits for the Environmental Board to decide.
A deviation permit is required when the construction site is located in an unzoned coastal area or the construction site is designated as a holiday construction site in the plan.
My own home is precious.
In Ikaalinen, you get more for less – housing prices here are significantly cheaper compared to the Tampere region. Here you can find a more spacious home, a beautiful lake view or even a larger yard for a significantly lower price.
Tampere is only 55 km away. – and travel time It's only a little over half an hour along the illuminated Highway 3!

In Ikaalinen, rental apartments are available both in the city center and in the villages.

Senior Citizens' House Aalto
The modern Senior Home Aalto was completed in July 2025 in the center of Ikaalinen, next to services and close to Lake Kyrösjärvi. The Senior Home Aalto has a total of 30 rental apartments, seven of which are two-room apartments and the rest are studios. The apartments in the Senior Home are intended for people over 65 years of age.
Aalto Senior Center is currently accepting residents.

City of villages
Ikaalinen is a city of villagesThe villages dotting the surroundings of Lake Kyrösjärvi are charming places to live, work and vacation.
Local communities and active village associations, as well as village residents, play a big role in living villages. The spirit of community service, neighborly help, and local events are the village strength that also lives in Ikaalinen.

Public transport
There are approximately 12-14 buses per day between Ikaalinen and Tampere in both directions on weekdays and approximately 5-7 buses per day on weekends.

From the OnniBussi website Länsilinjat has moved the sale of single tickets to the OnniBus ticket shop. This will bring relief to Ikaalinen passengers, as in the future, trips from Ikaalinen or Hämeenkyrö to Helsinki can be purchased with a single ticket purchase.

Pirha – Ikaalinen local station
The Ikaalinen local station houses a doctor and nurse's office, mental health and substance abuse services, a Fimlab sample collection point, rehabilitation services, maternity services and social services, as well as a home hospital, home care and client guidance. The same property also houses Markunkoti, a community housing service. The Ikaalinen dental clinic is also located in connection with the local station.

Service point Kompassi is Ikaalinen's new multi-service point, which brings together employment and business services, integration services, a customer service point, Ohjaamo and Ikaalinen Development services under one roof. The service point is located at Vanha Tampereentie 11.

Education
In Ikaalinen, a child's school path begins with high-quality early childhood education and continues close to the home environment as a unified school path.
The modern log school of the White Rose in the center of Ikaalinen offers a healthy and peaceful environment for learning. A new log-built middle school will be completed in the fall in connection with the elementary school. Young Ikaalinen
Ikaalinen youth servicesoffer meaningful leisure activities and support the growth, inclusion and community of young people in Ikaalinen. Youth services organize, among other things, youth evenings, trips, events and summer camps for children and young people aged 11–17.
In the lovely Youth centre Vienola Youth services' youth evenings, outreach youth work and the startup workshop Root's can be found under one roof.
Outreach youth work and Root's startup workshop provide low-threshold help and support to young people aged 17–29 who are outside education or the labour market.

SASKY Education Consortium IDEA CampusIkaalinen has a new kind of learning environment where vocational education and upper secondary education meet. The campus area offers a total of 22 different fields of study, with approximately 650 students. The educational institutions of the SASKY education consortium operate in the same premises:

How wonderful it is to be born in Ikaalinis!
All families living in Ikaalisi who have a baby in 2026 will receive a family package. The package includes a 150 euro gift card from the City of Ikaalisi, which the family can use at a company in Ikaalisi. The package also includes products donated by companies in Ikaalisi.
Families receive a family package that is distributed every year during a prenatal visit.
