Housing experiments in Ikaalinen
Ikaalinen and eight other municipalities in Western Finland opened the opportunity in autumn 2025 to explore and try out living and working remotely here, where the peace of nature meets active everyday life.
In the housing experiment, we offered the opportunity to experience the darkness of autumn, everyday life and how to survive even the grayest day of the year, maybe even enjoy it. A week in the countryside with your spouse or family was also an opportunity to get to know the services and hobbies of our small town.
Meet our guests in our living and remote working experiment!
In the second week of September, we finally received these young adults from Tampere. They are interested in the small town atmosphere of Ikaalinen, its proximity to nature, and its good recreational opportunities.
We thank Leena and Jami, Jasper and Elli, and all the other wonderful people who came to Ikaalinen! We spent a memorable week with you - welcome back to stay longer.

A wonderful, horrible rural event day charmed me
Ikaalinen In September, the entire city participated in a joint housing event involving nine municipalities. During the day, housing opportunities, village life, and hobbies were presented.
- Construction services and plot campaign aroused interest, and the charm of the old houses captivated.
- The villages presented themselves in the courtyard of Rahkola House, and a horse-drawn carriage ride to the Old Town brought history close.
- Youth center Vienola open doors offered young people games, music and baking in a historic setting.
- Amazing Race Ikaalinen combined nature, community and adventure in the form of a village adventure.
The event highlighted Ikaalinen's strengths: community spirit, services, and rural peace. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Remote work is successful in Ikaalinen

Recreational opportunities for those living in villages
Our villages offer diverse routes for outdoor activities and sports, as well as beautiful landscapes, both in summer and winter, on paths, fields and along the shores of Lake Kyrösjärvi.
The town of Ikaalinen is an oasis of well-being, with a spa, sports facilities and outdoor trails. Sports fields and beaches managed by village associations can be found in most villages.
Lake Kyrösjärvi offers good and diverse opportunities for fishermen.

Village community activities
The long-term and planned activities of our village are locally managed by village associations or committees. Village associations work for the common good of their own village community.
The village association's activities include repairing buildings and structures, maintaining sports facilities, and organizing events, markets, and sports challenges.
According to a jointly agreed action plan, we will organize village parties, village events and volunteer work throughout the year. The key development method is project work and volunteer work.
All villagers are welcome to participate in the activities of the village committee. All new residents are especially welcome to join the activities.
