Registration for pre-school education in the city of Ikaalinen for the academic year 2026-2027 is done using an electronic form. between 2.-6.2.2026. The form is filled out with a request for a preschool place and a possible need for additional activities. As a rule, children participate in preschool in the area of ​​their local school.

Students starting the first grade of basic education will be sent a letter in week 8, indicating the child's local school and the date of the orientation day. Preschool and schools start on August 6, 2026

Preschool education will be organized in the 2025-26 school year at Valkean ruusu Kindergarten and in combined classes at Kilvakkala and Tevaniemi schools. 

In the 2026-27 school year, preschool education will be organized in the city center area at the Valkean ruusun kindergarten. In Kilvakkala and Tevaniemi, preschool education will be organized either as a school or early childhood education activity, depending on the number of children. Preschool education will begin on August 6, 2026 and end on June 4, 2027. 

The city of Ikaaliste uses the electronic suomi.fi messaging service. You will receive the decision electronically if you have approved receiving electronic messages on the suomi.fi website. The electronic decision can be read on the suomi.fi website as soon as the decision has been sent electronically. Suomi.fi will send a notification of the new decision to your email. If your child needs activities that supplement preschool education, you can apply for them using the same electronic form. Please note when choosing a class size that preschool time (19 hours/week) is not included.

maximum 20h/week
less than 35 hours/week
35 hours/week or more

Preschool education has been mandatory since August 1, 2015.
The guardian is obliged to ensure that the child participates in one-year pre-school education or other activities that achieve the goals of pre-school education in the year before the start of compulsory education.
