Overview

Kilvakkala School is an active and vibrant regional school, with a group of preschoolers and primary school students from first to sixth grade. The school has approximately 80 students and approximately 9 teaching and educational staff. It is important to us that students enjoy school, feel safe and that there is a good team spirit in our school.

Our educational philosophy is based on human rights and human dignity, according to which everyone has the right to be involved, learn and participate according to their own abilities. Educational and teaching work is carried out together with parents in such a way that the student grows up to be a self-reliant, independent, balanced, self-confident and social young person according to their own conditions.

School location

Kilvakkala School is located in the idyllic village of Kilvakkala in Ikaalinen. Kilvakkala Daycare Center also operates in the same yard as the school. The sports facilities that are also used outside of school hours are Ässäkenttä, located in the front yard of the school, and the sports field and ice hockey rink are located behind the wooden school.

History

Kilvakkala Elementary School began operating in the autumn of 1899 in the Reo House pub building on the current school site. Before that, the people of Kilvakkala had attended school at the Kirkonkylä elementary school. A lease agreement for Reo was made for 20 years. Reko was purchased by the municipality in 1916. Construction of the new school building began in 1917. The school was designed by Tampere master builder Heikki Tiitola. The construction work was carried out by Johannes Hakala from Kilvakkala and the interior decoration by Werner Asell. The construction work took an exceptionally long time due to the turbulent times: the school was completed in the autumn of 1919 and the inauguration took place in February 1920. The primary school children continued their education in the Reo building.

The number of students at Kilvakkala Elementary School increased, and the school building became too small. The new school building was designed by architect Veikko Larkas. The building was completed in the summer of 1955.
