Valkea ruusu school

Overview

Valkea ruusu school is an active and open comprehensive school, with general education groups 1-6 and special education small groups 1-9. The school has approximately 285 students and approximately 42 teaching and educational staff. The school aims to operate as a common school for everyone, respecting individuality and taking everyone's needs into account. The school's special strengths are cooperation, musicality, internationality and a strong festive tradition.

Our educational philosophy is based on human rights and human dignity, according to which everyone has the right to be involved, learn and participate according to their own abilities. Educational and teaching work is carried out together with parents in such a way that the student grows up to be a self-reliant, independent, balanced, self-confident and social young person according to their own conditions. 

School location

Valkea ruusu school is located in the city center of Ikaalinen at the intersection of Vanha Tampereentie and entrance road. On the same plot as the school is the Ikaalinen Sports Hall, where the school's sports classes and larger parties are also held. There is also a sports field in the immediate vicinity of the school. Partners within walking distance include the police station, fire station, Lower secondary school, Valkea ruusu Daycare Center, the Kakkospesä Daycare Center, the College of Arts and Crafts and the Ikaalinen Parish.

History

Ikaalinen Kirkonkylä school began operations as a primary school on 8.4.1878 in a school building located on Mänttikuja in the Vanha Kauppala. The current school building was moved to its current location in 1958 and the school was expanded in 1984. At the same time, construction began on a sports hall, which was completed in 1985. The additional teaching facilities, mainly used by small groups, were completed in 1991, when Hakumäki special school moved to the same school building as Keskusta school. Hakumäki special school merged with Keskusta school at the beginning of 2007.

The old Keskusta school was demolished in 2016 and the new Valkea ruusu school began operations in a new school building in August 2017.
