Support teaching

Remedial teaching is a form of differentiation characterized by individual tasks, individual use of time, and guidance. Remedial teaching should begin as soon as learning difficulties are identified, so that the student does not fall behind permanently in his or her studies. Before a student's performance in a subject or subject group is assessed as poor, he or she must have the opportunity to participate in remedial teaching.

The initiative to provide remedial teaching to a student is primarily taken by the teacher. Remedial teaching must be arranged in agreement with the student's guardians, and they must be given information about the arrangement of remedial teaching.

Remedial teaching should be provided as frequently and extensively as is appropriate for the student's academic success. Remedial teaching is provided either during or outside of class time in accordance with the student's work schedule (fundamentals of the basic education curriculum).
