Mobile early childhood education in Ikaalinen

Mobile early childhood education

Development never ends, and work is done every day, in all seasons, to promote children's comprehensive well-being. It is the responsibility of every adult who works with children. Children and families are encouraged to engage in physical activity that is meaningful to their well-being, both in the everyday life of early childhood education and in their free time. We do not raise top athletes, although sometimes they may become so, but we work to ensure that every child learns a lifestyle that enables them to be well-being and functional as adults. The different areas of comprehensive competence are linked together through different types of physically active activities. Play is exercise, and exercise is play that moves both children and adults.

The early childhood education of the city of Ikaalinen has been involved in the national Early Childhood Education in Motion program since 2017. The goal of the program is to enable every child to enjoy movement and sufficient daily physical activity. The Early Childhood Education in Motion program is part of the national physical activity promotion program Liikkuvat, which promotes a physical lifestyle in different age and population groups.

A moving childhood 2024-

The aim of the development project is to create structures for the city that support joint family movement, which will enable the development and expansion of the operation over the next three years. The project's activities are primarily focused on early childhood education. It will help develop lifestyle and family exercise advice paths for families, taking into account families who exercise little or not at all. The project will also organize various guided and self-guided exercise events and groups for families. The project will also support the competence of early childhood education staff.

Nature Moves Project 2021-2023

The aim of the project was to promote physical activity and mental well-being of children and staff, especially by moving outdoors and in natural environments. Children's motor skills developed by walking on varied and uneven terrain. In outdoor activities, movement of all ages automatically increased and nature as an environment attracted exploration and movement in a variety of ways. Children's positive relationship with nature and a physical lifestyle were able to develop.
Through nature adventures, children learn well-being skills, including emotional, interaction, and strength skills, as well as taking care of their own bodies.
Early childhood education staff were trained, among other things, in developing and strengthening digital skills as part of nature education. One of the project's focuses was also family exercise, especially outdoor activities in different natural environments during families' free time. The project has offered low-threshold recreational activities for families with children.

Hip and hump from baby to grandpa project 2018-2020

The Hippaa ja humppaa vauasta vaariin project was a local project supported by the Regional State Administrative Agency's Veikkaus profit funds together with the city of Parkano. Over a three-year period, the project supported local development work for Mobile Early Childhood Education with the aim of making the operating culture of early childhood education more physical in relation to the recommendations for physical activity in the early years and launching the Mobile Early Childhood Education program. The aim of the project was to create a permanent operating model in both municipalities that would make children's everyday life in early childhood education physically active. In both municipalities, cross-administrative cooperation was carried out with other actors, including child welfare centres, schools, elderly and home care, and sports and cultural activities.
