Of the festivals dedicated to John the Baptist, only his birthday, or Midsummer, on June 24, remained a separate holy day in our country after the Reformation. The festival has been celebrated since the early 400th century. Its date is based on the idea that John was born six months before Jesus. The biblical basis for the festival is Luke 1:26, 36. In terms of salvation history, Midsummer refers to the following Christmas. Today, Midsummer is celebrated on the Saturday following June 19.

True to his name (John = God is gracious), John proclaimed God's gracious goodness, salvation, and forgiveness of sins.
