In the safety of early 1800th-century salons and living rooms, hits of the time were performed in abundance. Opera overtures such as those by Gioachino Rossini (1792–1868) and large orchestral works by Joseph Haydn (1732–1809) were skillfully arranged for small ensembles such as two guitars.

The instruments heard in the concert are rarer so-called Romantic era guitars, one of which is an authentic 1838 Louis Panormo and the other is a copy of this very instrument (Gary Southwell, 1993). The most obvious difference compared to the modern guitar is its smaller size. The unifying factor of the compositions, composers, arrangers and instruments is the same era.

The guitar duo consists of Eetu Yrjänä, a student completing her master's degree at the Sibelius Academy, and Janne Malinen, a teacher at the Sibelius Academy and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. They share a burning enthusiasm for the guitar and music of the Romantic period, as well as a long-standing teacher-student relationship, which has now turned into a collegial collaboration between two award-winning musicians.
