Outreach youth work – Help just for You!

Outreach youth work is intended for Ikaalinen residents aged 15–28. The outreach youth worker supports the young persons current situation. The young person him or herself decides what he or she wants to talk about and which issues are to be worked on together. Support is available, if education, work or other services are missing.

You can easily reach Outreach Youth Work by phone, SMS or Whatsapp. You can meet alone or with a closed person. Outreach Youth Work offers early support when the young person him or herself wants it. If you don't know where to ask – ask Outreach Youth Worker!

Outreach Youth Worker can help you to:

· think about the next steps in life

· clarify about your own situation

· consider future plans

· get support with official matters

· to look over financial matters and other everyday issues

· talk confidentially about serious issues

Outreach youth work is always voluntary, free of charge and confidential. The goals are agreed together with the young person. The Youth Act 1285/2016 guides the activities and obliges certain parties to contact the outreach worker if concerns arise about the young person's situation. In this case, the outreach worker can reach out to the young person and offer support - the young person decides whether they want to take action. A loved one can also contact the outreach worker.

What does the Outreach Youth Worker do after receiving information about the young person?

The Outreach Youth Worker will contact the young person with SMS or by calling and asks if he or she needs support. Service is voluntary.

Will there be costs or other consequences?

No. Outreach Youth Work is free of charge and is based on the young person's own wishes. Support is available if desired.

Do I have to meet you right away?

No. It's fine to call or send SMS first. Most wish to see the Youth Worker, since then it is easier to get things going.

Do you always have to meet at the office?

No. You can also meet at Ohjaamo, an educational institution, employment services or a café – wherever is easiest. The Outreach Youth Worker is a lot on the move and can be founding many places - here, there and everywhere!

Do we have to meet often?

No need. Many things can be resolved in just 1-3 meetings, and the meetings are arranged together with the young person. You can always say “thanks and bye bye”, and that’s okay. Our support and services for the young are voluntary, free of charge and confidential.
